Summer in the North Carolina Mountains – Ashe County, NC

Summer with all its splendor has finally arrived in the North Carolina Mountains. The wildflowers are blooming, the air is fresh and clean and people are making their journey to Ashe County to purchase their mountain home.

Downtown West Jefferson, NC

The shop owners have fresh merchandise and are ready to welcome the many visitors who come for the weekend to participate in the many summer events throughout Ashe County and to enjoy starry nights and the cool breezees of the North Carolina Mountains.

Just to mention only a few of the events that will be happening soon, the annual event “Christmas in July” will be held in the town of West Jefferson beginning Friday evening, July 2 at 7 p.m. There will be music and dancing in the streets as well as available food from town restaurants as well as the food vendors. On Saturday morning, the festival will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 8 p.m.

There will be a variety of booths selling mountain folk art, jewelry, pottery, and everything imaginable. The Christmas tree growers will have a demonstration; there will be activities for the children, a Civil War re-enactment of the Battle of Boone and many other interesting activities including mountain music. The booths and food vendors will be located on the Backstreet.

Appalachia Mountain Music

Traditional Appalachia Mountain music featuring local and regional artist performing old time mountain ballads and mountain folk songs along with old time blue grass with banjo and fiddle players. This event will be on the main stage on town square, and is the main event for “Christmas in July.”

Only a few of the many Summer Events!

The “Gallery Crawl” downtown West Jefferson is held each Friday evening beginning June 11, and will continue through the second Friday evening through October 8. During the summer, on Friday evenings – twice a month there will be concerts in the Pocket Park in West Jefferson. The Civic Center will have a weekend schedule for the performing arts. In and around the town and county, this summer will bring many interesting things to do.
