Seldom does such a large and unique tract become available. This mostly wooded 800.7 acre tract has a mixed terrain and features spectacular long-range layered mountain views, paved road frontage, headwaters of Hungry Mother Creek and The Jefferson National forest on two sides.

The land runs from the top of Little Brushy Mountain to the top of Walker Mountain with views all the way into West Virginia. Located just outside Marion, VA., only 6 miles to Interstate 81, this unique tract is close to the Mountain Empire Airport and just minutes to Hungry Mother State Park.

Adjoining a state maintained paved road, this tract enjoys a mixture of grassed areas, hardwoods, evergreens, rock outcroppings and abundant wildlife.

There is an old logging road that meanders through the property.

This tract features the headwaters of Hungry Mother Creek. Legend has it that when the Native Americans destroyed several settlements on the New River south of the park, Molly Marley and her small child were among the survivors taken to the raiders' base north of the park. They eventually escaped, wandering through the wilderness eating berries. Molly finally collapsed, and her child wandered down a creek until the child found help. The only words the child could utter were "Hungry Mother." The search party arrived at the foot of the mountain where Molly collapsed to find the child's mother dead. Today that mountain is Molly's Knob, and the stream is Hungry Mother Creek.

Intriguing rock outcroppings and acres and acres of woodlands allow for exploration and adventurous play time. You can almost hear the rustling of the leaves as deer, turkey, grouse and other woodland creatures go about their daily routines. Yes, an occasional black bear may happen along the many trails throughout this property.

This tract offers multiple building sites with long-range mountain views. Smyth County is located in the southwestern part of the state approximately 100 miles southwest of Roanoke, VA and 45 miles northeast of Bristol. Interstate 81 traverses through the middle of the county.

Now that the leaves are off the trees, a more vibrant silhouette emerges showing off spectacular layered long-range views.

The Jefferson National Forest borders on two sides of this tract. Approximately 690,106 acres of the Jefferson National Forest are in Virginia, including the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. The Jefferson National Forest offers 950 miles of hiking and riding trails, including 300 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and the 68-mile Virginia Highlands Horse Trail, designed for horseback riders and wagon trains.

Hungary Mother State Park is close by. The Park's history: John D. and Mildred Lincoln donated 1,881 acres to the state for the establishment of a state park in Smyth County on Hungry Mother Creek in 1933. Later that year the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began construction of Hungry Mother and five other state parks. Roads, trails, picnic areas, cabins, a restaurant, bathhouse, dam and sanitation system were all built by the 600 CCC men at the park between 1933 and 1941. On June 13, 1936, the six-park Virginia State Park System was officially dedicated with public opening ceremonies at Hungry Mother State Park in Smyth County. More than 5,000 turned out to see the park as Governor George Peery and State Park Director Robert Burson officiated.

In reflection, this rare and unique 800.7 acre tract that is bordered by the Jefferson National Forest on two sides, features the headwaters of Hungry Mother Creek, mixed terrain of woodlands, rock outcroppings, paved road frontage and abundant wildlife is located in Smyth County, VA., close to Hungary Mother State Park, the Mountain Empire Airport and just 6 miles to Interstate 81. Offered at $10,000 an acre, this is a must see! *SOLD
