More spooky fun is just around the corner at the annual Blowing Rock Halloween Festival, to take place on Saturday, October 29th. This FREE event is hosted by Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation. A fun-filled day of many activities will take place all day, highlighted by the traditional Monster March when all the young trick or treaters get to take over Main Street in downtown Boone and show off their costumes. Prizes will be awarded during the Costume Contest and also during the Scavenger Hunt.
Here’s a rundown of the day’s schedule
- 2:00pm – 3:00pm: Enjoy scary stories and creepy crafts at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (159 Chestnut Street).
- 3:00pm – 8:00pm: Check out the air walks in Memorial Park.
- 3:00 – 5:30pm: Kids will have a blast playing Halloween games and visiting the Fun House in the Recreation Center (White Building by the Tennis Courts).
- 4:00pm – 8:00pm: Take an old-fashioned hay ride through Blowing Rock, starting at Memorial Park.
- 5:30pm: Line up with the kids at the American Legion (135 Bear Trail) to start the Monster March. The parade itself starts at 5:45pm.
- 6:00pm: Trick or treat through downtown Blowing Rock (wherever you see black and orange balloons).
- 6:45pm: Sigh up for the Costume Contest at the Recreation Center, which begins at 7:00pm.
- Immediately after the Costume Contest: Moonlight Scavenger Hunt begins at Broyhill Lake for kids ages 6-13 (participation is in teams, maximum of three per group. Don’t forget flashlights!
