Old Man Winter is on his way out, and spring is just around the corner, officially arriving on March 21st! In Ashe County, many families have a tradition of welcoming spring by attending the Youth Derby day, which is traditionally held every last Saturday in March. So this year, on Saturday, March 25th, youth in the age groups of 1-6, 7-11 and 12-18 will have the change to cast their fishing poles.

March Happenings at the Ashe Civic Center

March Happenings

The Ashe Civic Center will play host to the Old Time Music and Bluegrass show with Gary Poe this Saturday, March 11, 2017. Starting a “little after eleven” Gary Poe will broadcast live from the stage of the Ashe Civic Center. The featured band for the Saturday morning radio show will be Elkville String Band.

Upcoming Music and Dance Events in Boone!

Here are two good reasons to get out and about this February in Boone. First, if you’ve never attended a Jones House Weekly Jam Session on a Thursday night, you may want to check it out! Attendees may bring an instrument to participate in the jams or listen and observe the fiddle tunes and folk songs in a relaxed environment.  Every week musicians from the local community as well as visitors get together in different rooms of the Jones House.  After catching up and choosing a key, the music starts and goes on until the "last call for tunes" around 10:50 pm.
