Don’t let the winter blues set in. This January the Ashe County Arts Council is sponsoring some great events that you don’t want to miss!

Gary Poe Radio Show 
The Ashe Civic Center will play host to the Old Time Music and Bluegrass show with Gary Poe on Saturday, January 12th. Starting a “little after eleven” Gary Poe will broadcast live from the stage of the Ashe Civic Center. The featured band for the Saturday morning radio show will be Eric and Brandon Hardin, Steve Lewis and Josh Scott. The Gary Poe show and concert will be free and open to the public.

Time: 11:00am – 12:00pm

Ralph Stanley II and Clinch Mountain Boys
  The band includes Clinch Mountain Boy John Rigsby on fiddle, mandolin and vocals; Alex Leach on banjo and vocals; Randall Hibbitts on the upright bass and vocals; and Ralph Stanley II on the guitar and lead vocals. This band configuration brings a lot of talent, energy and humor to the stage as they perform old-time favorites, bluegrass hits and new original material. Tickets are $22 for adults, $5 students and may be purchased at the Ashe Center or 336-846-2787.

MLK Celebration with Reggie Harris 
The Ashe County Arts Council will be sponsoring a community celebration in honor of Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 21 at 7:00 pm at the Ashe Arts Center in West Jefferson. The celebration will highlight the message of Dr. King and his teachings of peace, unity and equality in our society. The program will include excerpts of Dr. King’s I Have a Dream speech and audience reflections connected to the now famous speech.

Singer and songwriter Reggie Harris will be joining the celebration with stories and songs.

The Martin Luther King Day celebration is open to the public and refreshments will be served. Come join the Arts Council for this free event.
