Light Up the Town/Light Up the Christmas Tree in West Jefferson

The holiday season is about traditions, and in West Jefferson there are two lighting events that you don’t want to miss: the lighting up of the town on November 18th, and the lighting up of the communal Christmas tree on November 24th.

Light Up the Town will take place at 5:30pm on November 18th (after the holiday parade.) Sponsored by the West Jefferson Business Association, you can watch the official “flip the switch ceremony” to light up thousands of twinkling lights throughout West Jefferson.

When: Saturday, November 18, 2017
Time: 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Where: West Jefferson Back Street Park

2nd Avenue, West Jefferson
Admission: free

Then on November 24th, you can celebrate the season with the annual lighting of the Christmas tree in West Jefferson. This communal, small-town experience, for which Ashe County is known, includes caroling, hot chocolate, free rides on an old-fashioned fire truck and, of course, a visit from Santa and friends. This night marks the beginning of West Jefferson’s Hometown Christmas season, a holiday celebration beginning the day after Thanksgiving right up until Christmas Eve. Throughout the season, you can enjoy historic downtown West Jefferson: explore the many restaurants, shops and galleries to find those perfect gifts!

When: Friday, November 24, 2017
Time: 5:00pm – 6:30pm
Where: West Jefferson Backstreet Park
Admission: Free
