North Carolina Mountain Home Adjacent to "The Bluff"

The Bluff is located in Ashe County, North Carolina in the North Carolina Mountains, and lies in the Appalachian Mountain Range of the Blue Ridge. It is nature’s wonderland and owned by the Nature Conservancy.

The Bluff consists of 1,973 acres, rich in minerals such as calcium and potassium providing important nutrients for over 400 species of plants and wildflowers in which 25 rare and endangered flowering plant species exists. To add to the uniqueness, a broad high plateau of unusual wetland, a southern Appalachian fen is located on The Bluff.

The high elevations of the woodlands provide ideal nesting habitats to many species of tropical migratory birds such as the scarlet tanager, blue-headed vireo, rose-breasted grosbeak and black-throated green warbler. Rock outcrops are home to the elusive bobcats, mountain lion and other wildlife that live on the mountain. The Bluff is open to the public by guided tours from April through October of each year. For those who want to see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, and a wonderland of nature and wildlife take a hike on the Bluff.
