  • Peak Leaf Season in Ashe County

The many types of native trees have transformed from the green leaves of summer into an overall orange with streaks of red and yellow making the High Country off the chart with color this year.  To see the most vibrant fall colors, plan to visit mid-to-late October when the leaves are at their peak.  Noted below are a few of the top places for leaf lookers during their fall visit to Ashe County.

Ashe County’s Scenic Backroads

Driving out into the beautiful countryside is an experience for the adventurer.  You will find backroads that lead along the Wild and Scenic New River where the leaves on the trees are in contrast with the flowing river or choose the roads that slowly rise upward to view breathtaking long-range mountains.  There will be enough time left to travel to the Blue Ridge Parkway or drive to the top of Mt. Jefferson State Natural Area.  The overlooks will not disappoint.
