Watercolor Collage with Freda Lee McCann (June 20, 2018)

All Levels
Workshop Supply List
This class includes all levels from beginners to advanced artists.  By doing collage, one learns to become more expressive beyond one’s comfort zone.  The project can help the artists explore new design, color, texture, and style.  One can introduce something new by using either an old discarded painting or a clean paper, and collage over part of it with patterns or color paper, then paint on top of it to integrate and resolve the painting.

This workshop will focus on making “Caroline’s Basket”.  We will begin by inserting spokes into a wooden base.  The students will then learn many techniques including triple twining, with a step up, rim lashing and adding a handle.

Workshop Teacher Eva D Green is a fourth-generation basket weaver.  Eva was skillfully taught the art of basket weaving by her mother, Nadine Degraffenreaidt.  Hand weaving baskets is Eva’s biggest passion.  She really enjoys making intricate baskets.  Weaving baskets with designs that are difficult to achieve provides a rewarding challenge for her. Eva uses berries, nuts, flowers, vegetables, and anything that will make a stain to dye the reed for her baskets. She has been awarded numerous ribbons for baskets and teaches locally at different community colleges. She is a member of the North Carolina Basket Association where she is on the Board of Directors.  She is a member of the Chapel Hill Basket Guild, Chatham Weavers Basket Guild and the Chatham Artist Guild.
