When’s the last time you visited the Ashe County Library in West Jefferson?

Here’s a little history behind this local treasure:The Ashe County Public Library was founded in 1932 by the Ashe County Women's Club and opened with 500 books in the collection.  In 1962, the Ashe Library joined with the Wilkes and Watauga Libraries to form the Appalachian Regional Library.  In 1977, the doors opened on the new, dedicated building where the library is still housed today, after two major expansions (the last completed in 2009) which more than tripled the original square footage.

In addition to hard copy books, this library offers both downloadable ebooks and audio books through its partnership with the neighboring Northwestern Regional Library system.

For those interested in book groups, there are three to choose from:

Brouhaha Book Club
There's no assigned reading for this book club. Come as you are, read what you want, and join our lively discussion of recent reads.

This is our perennially-popular, traditional book club.
Third Tuesdays at 1 pm

Audiobook + Coloring Book Club

And here’s a sampling of what’s happening beyond books at the library:

Ashe Seed Library
This partnership between Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture (BRWIA), Ashe County Cooperative Extension, and Ashe County Public Library seeks to make free seed available to Ashe County residents for the purposes of promoting food security, building community resilience, and creating a culture of sharing.
