If you’ve never checked out the Ashe County Peacemaker’s Quilt Guild's annual Quilt Fair whose theme this year is Seasons of the Mountains, you’re in for a treat. If you are a wine aficionado, you’ll want to head over to the River House Winefest on Saturday, July 21st. You’ll enjoy tastings from North Carolina premier wineries including: Adagio, Biltmore, Dobbins Creek, Elkin Creek, Hanover Park, Jones vonDrehle, Laurel Gray, McRitchie, Old North State, Rag Apple Lassie, Round Peak, Shadow Springs and Thistle Meadows.

The Brutal is one of the premiere mountain rides in this area and is not for the fainthearted. The three options – 56-mile, 72-mile and 102-mile rides take you onto the Blue Ridge Parkway and over many hills. All these rides can be considered challenging to strenuous. However, you can mix the pain with the joy of riding through some of the most beautiful scenery in North Carolina which, we believe, makes these rides some of the most spectacular in this area. This ride tours Ashe and Alleghany counties and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Beginning and ending in front of the Ashe Civic Center, in the shadow of Mount Jefferson, the ride offers varied and challenging terrain.
