The Brutal is one of the premiere mountain rides in this area and is not for the fainthearted. The three options – 56-mile, 72-mile and 102-mile rides take you onto the Blue Ridge Parkway and over many hills. All these rides can be considered challenging to strenuous. However, you can mix the pain with the joy of riding through some of the most beautiful scenery in North Carolina which, we believe, makes these rides some of the most spectacular in this area. This ride tours Ashe and Alleghany counties and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Beginning and ending in front of the Ashe Civic Center, in the shadow of Mount Jefferson, the ride offers varied and challenging terrain.

Come check out the first annual craft beer and wine tasting festival in downtown West Jefferson! This event celebrates the talented brewers and vintners in the northwest North Carolina region with a focus on the process of creating craft beer and wine. A percentage of the proceeds will go to support "Shoes for Kids" a local organization that provides shoes for children in need.

The Museum of Ashe County presents Ashe County Tours the second Saturdays of May through October. Each tour will be conducted by a knowledgeable guide who will share stories from the community and point out what makes each community unique as well as special architecture that is rooted in various time periods. The first tour starts with Grassy Creek.

Get ready to feast and have fun at Savor Blowing Rock which will take place Thursday, May 3 through Sunday, May 6.
