Sponsored by Friends of High Country State Parks, this “family friendly” canoe and kayak race proceeds go to the five area state parks. The cost to enter is $15 per person or $25 for a “family float”. Boats can start anytime between 9am-1:30pm. The first 200 registrants will receive a T-Shirt. After the race, enjoy food from the taco truck, music and activities at the New River State Park, Wagoner Access.

This June there’s lots going on in Lansing, just 20 miles from Jefferson and West Jefferson including the Lansing Area Beach Blast and the First Annual Lansing Blues Festival!

Ashe County Little Theatre presents The Secret Garden June 21-25 at the Ashe Civic Center. Ashe County Little Theatre is a community based volunteer organization. The group meets quarterly and meetings are open to the public. Currently ACLT is producing four plays a year.

If you are a lover of intimate music experiences where you get to meet the artist, check out West Jefferson’s Saloon Studios Live, a unique live music venue and recording studio.

The 32nd Annual Christmas in July Festival in West Jefferson, will take place on Saturday, July 7, 2018, with kick off activities beginning the day before on Friday, July 6th. The Christmas in July Festival began as a way to promote the local Christmas tree industry, and boy has it worked!  Ashe County (home of West Jefferson) is now the largest producer of Christmas trees in the nation!

All LevelsWorkshop Supply ListThis class includes all levels from beginners to advanced artists.  By doing collage, one learns to become more expressive beyond one’s comfort zone.  The project can help the artists explore new design, color, texture, and style.  One can introduce something new by using either an old discarded painting or a clean paper, and collage over part of it with patterns or color paper, then paint on top of it to integrate and resolve the painting.
