In celebration of the North Carolina Arts Council’s 50th anniversary, the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area is partnering with 13 JAM programs in western North Carolina to present showcase concerts of outstanding current and past students as well as instructors.

Here’s a great opportunity to enjoy one of America’s best-loved plays right here in Ashe County. Ashe County Little Theatre’s kicks off its 2018 season with the classic play, Bus Stop, which was written by famed American playwright William Inge in 1955. Some may recall that Marilyn Monroe appeared in a film version of the play in 1956. Performances of Bus Stop will run over the weekend of April 6-8, at the Ashe Civic Center in West Jefferson.

It’s time to get your green on and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a hometown parade right in Boone! Sponsored by the Town of Boone, along with the Jones House Cultural and Community Center, this inaugural event will start at the western end of King Street at the intersection with Poplar Grove Extension, traveling east on King Street through Boone before ending at Legend’s on Hardin Street, around the corner from the Dan’l Boone Inn.

Vendetta Crème capture a multitude of moods, styles, and laughs with each performance. They have traveled far and wide, dazzling audiences the world over with their non-stop variety cabaret show that "brings tears to the eyes of the most hard-hearted, or leaves the room flabbergasted with laughter.”

Get your green on at the Annual High Country Seed Swap in Jefferson. Free and open to all local gardeners and aspiring gardeners, this event is sponsored by North Carolina Cooperative Extension, the Ashe County Farmers Market, and the Ashe County Master Gardeners. Bring your extra seeds, bulbs, or cuttings to swap and share. Gardening workshops run throughout the day.

Appalachian Roller Derby is hosting Red Stick Roller Derby, their first home bout of the season! They will be skating at the Youth Outreach Skating Rink in West Jefferson. This event will benefit Community Care Clinic. The West Jefferson community is invited to come out and cheer them on for this worthy cause!
