The Barn Quilts of Ashe County

Barn Quilts

According to the Ashe County Arts Council, “The quilt is a symbol of comfort and family. Barns are a symbol of our heritage and community. What would be better than combining the two and creating a visual image of who we are and where we come from?” Thus the Ashe Arts Quilt Project was born. Today there are currently more than 160 colorfully patterned quilt block paintings that decorate charming old barns in Ashe County.

Renowned Nature Photographer Joshua White Exhibit at Ashe County Library

Throughout the month of August, renowned photographer, Joshua White of West Jefferson, will feature his ongoing project, "A Photographic Survey of the American Yard," in the upstairs gallery of the Ashe County Public Library. This photo series of plants, insects and animals highlights the biodiversity of backyards and has been featured in "Proof: National Geographic’s Online Photography Journal," "Scientific American," and "Mother Nature Network."
